National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka declares readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan

ISLAMABAD, April 27. /Dunyo IA/.  Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Sri Lanka with residence in Islamabad Alisher Tukhtaev, held an online meeting with the President of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Anura Warnakulasooriya, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The head of the diplomatic mission spoke about the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the favourable conditions created for foreign companies and entrepreneurs, and the consistently developing bilateral relations.

During the negotiations, parties paid special attention to intensifying trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka, establishing direct contacts between business circles and developing practical mechanisms for interaction in promising areas.

Agriculture, the textile industry, logistics, pharmaceuticals and tourism were identified as priority areas for cooperation. The importance of organizing B2B meetings with the participation of entrepreneurs working in these sectors was also emphasized.

One of the central themes of the negotiations was the development of cooperation in the tourism sector. Information was presented to the Sri Lankan side regarding Uzbekistan's rich tourism potential, its unique historical and cultural heritage and the simplified visa regime introduced for citizens of Sri Lanka.

President of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka noted that strengthening cooperation in trade, economic, transport, and tourism sectors serves the interests of both countries. According to her, entrepreneurs - members of the Chamber - show significant interest in investing in Uzbekistan.

Additionally, an initiative was put forward for a delegation from Uzbekistan to participate in the “Sri Lanka Expo–2026” exhibition, which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from June 18 to 21 of this year.

“To develop new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, we plan to organize a visit to Uzbekistan in the near future for a delegation of companies - members of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka - as well as to hold business forums and ‘round tables’ dedicated to economic interaction, - noted Anura Warnakulasuriya. - Such events will serve as an effective platform for establishing strong partnerships between the business circles of the two countries, exchanging experience and implementing new joint investment projects”.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the issues discussed and initiatives put forward during the meeting create a solid foundation for the further strengthening of trade, economic, investment and tourism ties between Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka, as well as for the consistent development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
