“Associated Press of Pakistan”: Summit in Turkestan confirms the growing role of Uzbekistan within the Organization of Turkic States

ISLAMABAD, May 22. /Dunyo IA/. Pakistani news agency “Associated Press of Pakistan” published an interview with Akramjon Nematov, First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo correspondent.
The interview highlights that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Turkestan and his participation in the informal OTS summit reflect a new stage in the organization's development and the growing role of Central Asia in the emerging architecture of Eurasian cooperation.
According to the expert, the summit focused not only on cultural and humanitarian issues, but also on digitalization, artificial intelligence, transport connectivity, and innovation. The publication paid special attention to Shavkat Mirziyoyev's bilateral meetings with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Akramjon Nematov also emphasized the importance of the humanitarian component of the visit. According to him, visiting the mosque built by Uzbekistan in Turkestan became a symbol of strengthening brotherly relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as a confirmation of the historical and cultural closeness of the peoples.
The interview emphasizes that Uzbekistan continues to pursue an open and balanced foreign policy, advocating for constructive engagement with all partners. At the same time, Turkic cooperation is viewed not as a closed geopolitical project, but as part of a broad, inclusive architecture of Eurasian interaction.
The expert noted that at the OTS summit, Uzbekistan promoted a pragmatic and large-scale agenda aimed at shaping a new architecture of technological, transport, investment and humanitarian cooperation.
According to him, a key feature of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's speech was the emphasis on transforming the OTS from a predominantly politico-cultural platform into a mechanism for practical integration in such strategically important areas as artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, logistics, climate security and cyber resilience.
