Archaeologists discover 3,000-year-old early Iron Age City in Uzbekistan

ANKARA, April 1. /Dunyo IA/. Archaeologists from Uzbekistan and China have discovered an ancient city approximately 3,000 years old in the south of the country, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the Turkish news portal “Habergo”.

It is noted that the excavations were carried out at the Bandikhon II archaeological site in the Surkhandarya region. During the research, scientists identified the remains of a settlement founded in the 10th century BC, which existed until the 8th century BC.

According to the reports, the discovery provides the first accurate insights into the layout, construction methods, and functions of Early Iron Age settlements. Excavations in the eastern part of the site confirmed that the lower cultural layers date back specifically to this period. Furthermore, Bandikhon II is considered the largest and best-preserved settlement of its type in the Bandikhon oasis.

Overall, the Surkhandarya region is known as one of the richest archaeological regions in Uzbekistan, with a high concentration of Iron Age monuments. This new discovery allows for a deeper understanding of the region's historical development.

The Early Iron Age, spanning approximately 1200-800 BC, follows the Bronze Age and is of particular scientific interest. It is stated that the discovered materials help provide more detailed information about the structure of settlements from that period.

Scientists note that the discovered architectural remains and artefacts offer insight into the ancient population's way of life, social ties and technological level. Furthermore, it is suggested that the settlement played a significant role in the system of ancient trade routes and cultural contacts in Central Asia.

It is expected that further excavations will bring new discoveries and help to further reveal the ancient history of the region.
