Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan advance “Kambarata-1” HPP project

MOSCOW, May 19. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are advancing the construction of the “Kambarata-1” HPP and creating a “green corridor” for electricity export, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Russian information and analytical publication “Rhythm of Eurasia”.
It is noted that Uzbekistan is expanding energy cooperation with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, including participation in the “Kambarata-1” HPP construction project and the formation of a "green corridor" with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia for electricity export.
Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, announced concrete directions for regional interaction in the energy sector at the “Energy Week Uzbekistan – 2026” international forum in Tashkent.
According to him, the key cooperation projects include participation in the construction of the “Kambarata-1” hydroelectric power plant and the development of the “green corridor” transregional energy route, which aims to unite Central Asian countries and export electricity to broader markets.
It is indicated that the implementation of these initiatives is supported by the political leadership of the region's countries, which, according to the minister, provides a sustainable foundation for long-term energy projects.
It is also emphasized that Uzbekistan plans to diversify its energy sector, develop nuclear energy and gradually reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
According to expert estimates, the total investment in energy cooperation among Central Asian countries between 2026 and 2030 could reach 10 to 15 billion dollars.
