Uzbekistan promotes cultural outreach through literature provision to “Marmara” Women’s Prison in Türkiye

ISTANBUL, January 20. /Dunyo IA/.  Diplomats from the Consulate General of Uzbekistan carried out another consular visit to the closed-type women’s correctional colony “Marmara” located in Silivri district of Türkiye, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the visit, consular officials held meetings with citizens of Uzbekistan serving sentences for offenses committed in Türkiye, gathered information on their well-being, reviewed their conditions of detention and provided the necessary consular and legal assistance.

Previously, the inmates had requested access to Uzbek-language literature. In response, at the initiative of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan and with the support of the Committee on Family and Women of Uzbekistan as well as the “A-Sakhi” and “Hilol Nashr” publishing houses, a collection of more than 100 educational, academic, religious and popular literary works, brought from Uzbekistan, was donated to the facility’s library.

During the visit, the living conditions of Uzbekistani citizens held in pre-trial detention were also reviewed, including food provision, access to medical services and the procedures for maintaining telephone contact with close relatives.

In individual meetings, concerns raised by the detainees were identified and clarifications were provided regarding their rights and freedoms as well as the obligations established under the legislation of the Republic of Türkiye.

Following the visit, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan will take appropriate measures to address the issues identified.
