ISLAMABAD, June 30. /Dunyo IA/. The state-run “Associated Press of Pakistan” (APP) Information Agency has published an analytical report titled “Uzbekistan-U.S. environmental Cooperation advances to strategic partnership”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Publication emphasizes that the environmental dialogue between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United States of America has successfully transitioned into a qualitative new phase, evolving into a comprehensive, long-term strategic partnership dedicated to combating climate change, preserving regional biodiversity, fostering sustainable development and advancing scientific synergy.
Publication states that amid the escalating severity of global ecological challenges - most notably climate change, desertification, biodiversity loss and atmospheric pollution - Uzbekistan has designated environmental protection and climate resilience as absolute priorities within its national development agenda. Consequent to this strategic orientation, the expansion of bilateral cooperation with the United States of America occupies a paramount position in the nation's international environmental policy.
One of the primary pillars of this bilateral synergy is the 'C5+1' diplomatic platform, within which the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan actively participates in the working groups dedicated to environment and energy. This dialogue framework provides the nations of Central Asia and the United States with a vital mechanism to exchange expertise, formulate joint initiatives, and reinforce regional cooperation on critical environmental imperatives," the publication notes.
“One of the key platforms for bilateral engagement is the “C5+1” framework, where the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan actively participates in the Environment and Energy Working Groups, said a release issued here on Sunday. Dialogue enables Central Asian nations and the United States to exchange expertise, develop joint initiatives, and strengthen regional cooperation on environmental issues. Bilateral ties have gained significant momentum in recent years through educational exchanges, international forums, and professional development programs. Uzbek specialists have participated in sessions of the United Nations Forum on Forests, technical visits organized in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and environmental education initiatives under the U.S. Congress’s Open World Program, contributing to enhanced professional expertise and knowledge sharing”, - the publication notes.
In recent years, bilateral cooperation between the two nations has intensified significantly, propelled by educational exchanges, high-level international forums, and professional capacity-building programs.
“Scientific collaboration has also reached new heights. A memorandum signed in 2025 between Green University in Tashkent and Columbia University’s Center for Sustainable Development is expected to significantly expand joint research in ecology and climate science. The partnership has already produced tangible results, including the visit of internationally renowned economist and sustainable development expert Jeffrey Sachs to Uzbekistan. Looking ahead, both countries see broad opportunities to deepen cooperation in forest management, biodiversity conservation, and protected area development. The United States’ advanced experience in sustainable forestry and ecosystem monitoring offers valuable lessons that could support Uzbekistan’s efforts to restore degraded landscapes and strengthen environmental management”, - the article emphasizes.
Publication further observes that the advanced expertise of the United States in sustainable forestry management and ecosystem monitoring stands to yield a substantial contribution to the efforts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in restoring degraded landscapes and reinforcing its environmental governance framework. Furthermore, it underscores that Uzbekistan exhibits a profound interest in studying the experience of the United States in sustainable urban development.
“Associated Press of Pakistan” concludes that today, environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States transcends the scope of isolated projects, increasingly assuming the character of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
