MOSCOW, September 12. /Dunyo IA/.  Russia’s “Kommersant Weekend” magazine has published an article on the opening of the Contemporary Art Center in Tashkent (CCA Tashkent), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication notes that this is the first state-run contemporary art center in Uzbekistan and one of the largest institutions of its kind in Central Asia, bringing together exhibition, educational, research and outreach activities.

Center is housed in a historic building dating back to 1912, designed by architect Wilhelm Heinzelmann. It originally served as a tram depot and was later converted into a diesel power station supplying electricity to the city’s first tram line. The building was restored by the French architectural firm Studio KO.

“Kommersant Weekend” highlights the project’s international cooperation. The center’s partners include the Guggenheim Museum, Tate Modern, Centre Pompidou, Delfina Foundation, the National Museum of Asian Art of the United States and the Arts Council Korea.

Complex also houses a library and a research center. According to the organizers, the venue will serve as a platform for interaction among artists, curators, researchers and young people from Uzbekistan and other countries.

An exhibition by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov is scheduled to be held at the center in 2027, with Zelfira Tregulova serving as its curator.
