Training of Guides and Translators for Pilgrims from Malaysia and Indonesia enters new phase

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16. /Dunyo IA/.  In the tourist centers of our country - Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand - the training of guide-interpreters specializing in serving pilgrims in the Malay and Indonesian languages has begun, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The project is being implemented jointly with the Tourism Committee, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and Embassy of Uzbekistan in Malaysia as part of the execution of the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution dated January 9, 2026, “On additional measures aimed at implementing the Umrah Plus pilgrimage tourism program”. The document was adopted due to the increasing number of pilgrim tourists from Malaysia and Indonesia visiting our country in recent years.

To date, specialists in the Malay and Indonesian languages are being continuously trained at the Higher School of South Asian Languages and Literature of the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

The scope of the project has now expanded. Six-month intensive training courses for guide-interpreters in Malay and Indonesian have been organized at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, Bukhara State University and the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand, all of which offer programs in tourism, hospitality and translation.

Qualified lecturers from the National University of Malaysia and Sultan Idris Education University have been recruited for these courses. This year alone, it has become possible to train more than 50 specialists proficient in Malay and Indonesian.

Moving forward, there are plans to implement this experience in other regions of the republic, particularly in the Khorezm and Surkhandarya regions, and to make these programs permanent.
