Prime Minister of Georgia: More illegal migrants were deported from the country in a year than in the previous decade

TBILISI, June 24. /Dunyo IA/. Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze said that in just over a year, more illegal migrants were deported from the country than in the previous ten years combined, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing “Xinhua” IA.

According to him, this result is the outcome of institutional reforms and the political approach implemented by the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Irakli Kobakhidze said that currently there are about 20,000 illegal migrants in Georgia and the government intends to continue active work towards their deportation.

As reported by “Sputnik Georgia”, in recent days the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, in coordination with relevant units, has carried out operations resulting in the expulsion of dozens of foreign citizens from the country.

Among them are citizens of Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, China, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Sudan, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and several other countries.

According to official data, 904 foreign nationals were expelled from Georgia in the first quarter of 2026, with the largest number being citizens of Türkiye.

In accordance with the current legislation of Georgia, those who were expelled were subject to a ban on entry into the country. This restriction does not apply to those who left the country voluntarily.
