MOSCOW, September 14. /Dunyo IA/.  Official “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” has published an article about the Center for Contemporary Art, which recently opened in the capital of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication, titled “Vertical Mahalla: How Tashkent Is Becoming a Centre of Contemporary Art in full view of the world”, focuses on the architecture of the new centre and its role in advancing contemporary art in Uzbekistan.

Article highlights the distinctive features of the complex in Tashkent, which the authors describe as a “vertical mahalla”. Building features communal courtyards with recreational areas and gardens, creating spaces for interaction and meetings.

Particular attention is given to the centre’s first exhibition, “Hikmah” (“Wisdom”), which brings together artists from different countries. The works on display include projects by Nari Ward, Tarek Iskander and Kimsooja.

“Rossiyskaya Gazeta” also highlights the role of the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan in establishing the centre and promoting contemporary art in the country, including through the Bukhara Biennial and Uzbekistan’s participation in the Venice Biennale.

Article emphasizes that the centre will serve not only as an exhibition venue but also as an artist residency with workshops and studios for artists and musicians. The authors also draw attention to parallel projects, including an exhibition by designer Mohamed Benshallal.
