Senate approved the law on ratification of the Agreement between Uzbekistan and Pakistan on the transfer of sentenced persons

TASHKENT, October 5. /Dunyo IA/.   On October 3rd, at the 20th plenary session of the Senate, Law “On Ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons (Islamabad, February 5th, 2026)” was discussed, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the upper house of parliament, in accordance with the provisions of this agreement, parties cooperate in the transfer of prisoners serving sentences of imprisonment to serve the remainder of their term in the state of which they are a citizen.

Document clearly defines the conditions for the transfer of a sentenced person, the grounds for refusal, the central authorities, form and content of the request and the procedure for the execution of the sentence, transit and reimbursement of expenses.

According to the senators, adoption of this law will expand opportunities to protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens serving sentences abroad, ensure their social rehabilitation, as well as serve the further development of legal cooperation between the two states, ensure compliance with the principles of humanity in practice and strengthen international cooperation in the field of the enforcement of sentences.

Following the review, the law was approved by the senators.

It is worth recalling that the document was signed within the framework of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Pakistan on February 5–6th, 2026.
