SEOUL, June 26. /Dunyo IA/. Kim Keon Hee, the wife of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, has been sentenced to seven years in prison on corruption charges, including accepting bribes in exchange for appointments to government positions, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the Yonhap News Agency.

The Seoul Central District Court handed down the sentence, stating that Kim Keon Hee accepted luxury items without hesitation, despite the fact that such goods are virtually unattainable for ordinary citizens.

The team led by Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki, who investigated the corruption case involving the former presidential couple, had sought a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Kim Keon Hee. Prosecutors alleged that she exchanged government appointments for expensive jewellery and other luxury goods.

Earlier this year, former President Yoon Suk Yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment in February in connection with an insurrection case linked to his declaration of martial law in 2024. Later, in June, a Seoul court also sentenced him to 30 years in prison in a separate case involving military provocation against North Korea.
