Uzbekistan and UNESCO discuss preservation of the cultural heritage of the country

PARIS, September 10. /Dunyo IA/. Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to UNESCO Kamol Mukhtarov met with Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Lazare Eloundou Assomo, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Parties discussed the implementation of joint initiatives and prospects for expanding cooperation in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage sites in Uzbekistan.
Lazare Eloundou Assomo extended his congratulations once again to Uzbekistan on the inscription of the serial property “Tashkent Modernist Architecture” on the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 26th. The decision was adopted during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Busan.
Director of the Centre noted that this historic event reflects the international community's recognition of Uzbekistan’s comprehensive measures to safeguard the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the country.
Particular focus was directed by the parties toward collaborative projects concerning the restoration of the Poi Kalyan architectural complex and the establishment of an open-air archaeological museum within the territory of “Shahristan”.
During the meeting, the interlocutors reviewed the outcomes of the missions of international experts who worked in Bukhara in May–June of this year, as well as the subsequent steps required to implement these projects.
