Uzbek Grandmasters claim top two places at the prestigious “Tata Steel Chess Masters 2026” tournament

• 150ТASHKENT, February 2. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan’s representatives achieved outstanding results at the prestigious international tournament, “Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2026”, securing the first and the second places in the “Masters” group, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the International Chess Federation (FIDE), Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov emerged as the winner of the 88th Tata Steel Chess Tournament, held from 16 January to 1 February in Wijk aan Zee. The tournament attracted some of the strongest players in the world, promising young talents and numerous chess enthusiasts.
The fight for first place remained intense until the final 13th round. Heading into the last round, five players, including Abdusattorov, were in contention for the title. Demonstrating exceptional skill and consistent play, the Uzbek grandmaster claimed the tournament’s top title for the first time, after three previous attempts in which he had consistently been among the leaders.
Another Uzbek representative, Javokhir Sindarov, who recently became the youngest winner of the Chess World Cup, secured second place. Over 13 rounds, he scored 8.5 points (4 wins and 9 draws), finishing the tournament as the only “Masters” participant without a single loss.
The remarkable performance of Uzbekistan’s players highlights the country’s growing prominence on the international chess stage and the emergence of a new generation of elite grandmasters.
