Hangzhou hosts talks on advancing Uzbekistan–China cooperation in education and humanitarian exchange

• 72HANGZHOU, May 19. /Dunyo IA/. During a working visit to the city of Hangzhou, officials of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Shanghai held a series of meetings and negotiations, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
As part of the visit, meetings were held with the leadership of Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Uzbek students studying at the university, as well as representatives of the “Ramunion” Foundation.
During the talks, Vice President of the university Zhen Tao noted that all necessary conditions have been created for international students, including young citizens of Uzbekistan, to receive a comprehensive and high-quality education. He also stated that the university stands ready to provide continued support in addressing issues related to students’ academic process.
Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics was founded in 1974 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province and specialises in economics, finance and management studies. The university currently enrols around 22,000 students, including 25 citizens of Uzbekistan.
The university annually allocates five scholarship grants for students from Uzbekistan. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the possibility of increasing the number of grants to between 10 and 15.
Director of the Central Asian Studies Institute at Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Zheng Yali, noted that trade, economic and humanitarian ties between Zhejiang Province and the countries of Central Asia have expanded significantly in recent years.
Meanwhile, Gu Wenyu, Head of the International Cooperation Department of the “Ramunion” Foundation, emphasised that the increasing number of natural and man-made disasters worldwide has underscored the growing importance of strengthening international cooperation in the field of rescue, emergency response and humanitarian assistance operations.
“Ramunion” Foundation was established in 2003 in Hangzhou and specialises in providing assistance to elderly people and persons with disabilities during emergency situations. The organisation currently operates in 17 countries and has more than 30,000 volunteers.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed prospects for establishing cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in the field of emergency management, as well as the organisation of joint training programmes and professional development courses.
