Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss implementation of high-level agreements in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, September 9. /Dunyo IA/.  Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev, held talks with the Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Event was also attended by key officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industries and Production of Pakistan, as well as other relevant government agencies.

During the negotiations, the parties reviewed the current state of Uzbek-Pakistani trade and economic cooperation and the prospects for its further development. Special attention was paid to increasing the volume of mutual trade, accelerating the implementation of investment projects, expanding export and import indicators and strengthening interaction in the field of transport and logistics.

The sides discussed the progress on the practical implementation of agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Pakistan on February 5–6th of this year, aimed at the further development of trade, economic and investment cooperation.

Important significance of the meeting between the heads of the two states, held on August 31st in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, as well as the priority tasks defined during it, was noted. It was emphasized that the consistent and effective implementation of the reached agreements will contribute to further enriching bilateral relations with economic substance.

During the meeting, the parties also reviewed issues related to expanding the exchange of mutual delegations, strengthening interregional cooperation and industrial partnerships, as well as accelerating work on planned bilateral international treaties.

Parties emphasized the importance of holding high-level Uzbek-Pakistani business forums and ensuring their focus on achieving practical results. In this regard, they noted the need to prioritize the promotion of joint projects in promising sectors, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, food processing, leather and footwear, building materials, agriculture and information technology.

Following the meeting, agreements were reached to conduct regular online sessions on priority areas, establish direct practical negotiations between companies from both countries and develop concrete commercial agreements.

To these ends, the sides agreed to establish direct contacts between the Ministry of Industries and Production of Pakistan and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, as well as to set up a working group to coordinate specific tasks in priority areas of cooperation.
