DAMASCUS, September 7. /Dunyo IA/. A meeting was held in Damascus with representatives of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and about 20 Syrian businesses operating in various sectors of the economy, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Meeting served as a continuation of the dialogue initiated at the Uzbek-Syrian Business Forum in Bukhara in February of this year. The parties discussed the implementation of the reached agreements and the prospects for expanding practical cooperation between the entrepreneurs of the two countries.

Particular attention was paid to the development of direct contacts in the fields of the food industry, building materials production, electrical engineering, light industry and other promising areas.

Syrian side noted the high demand for building materials in connection with the country's reconstruction processes and expressed interest in cooperating with Uzbek construction and development companies. The opportunities for expanding trade in electrical and light industrial products were also discussed.

Prospects for utilizing the capabilities of the Trading House of Uzbekistan in Aleppo and establishing similar trading platforms in other regions of Syria were considered separately.

Syrian entrepreneurs were invited to participate in a business forum within the framework of the first meeting of the Uzbek-Syrian Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which is planned to be held in Tashkent this autumn.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to regularly conduct direct contacts, organize mutual business missions, expand the participation of entrepreneurs in international exhibitions and fairs of both countries, and intensify work on concrete trade and investment projects.
