International Advisory Committee on Uzbekistan's Cultural Heritage holds regular meeting

• 252PARIS, March 6. /Dunyo IA/. The Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan to UNESCO took part in the fifth meeting of the International Advisory Committee on the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, which was held online, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
International Advisory Committee on the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan brings together leading international experts in the field of cultural heritage. On a regular basis, the committee provides Uzbekistan with recommendations and practical assistance on the protection, management, and restoration of unique historical monuments located across the country and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in line with the provisions of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and other advanced international standards.
The meeting was attended by members of the committee, representatives of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), UNESCO Office in Tashkent, the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of other relevant institutions.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the activities of the International Advisory Committee on the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan for 2024-2025, including the committee’s sessions, visits by international experts to Uzbekistan and the practical outcomes of these engagements.
Members of the committee also presented a series of recommendations on the management of historic cities and their landscapes, the improvement of urban planning regulations and standards, sustainable urban development, and the management of cultural tourism. Discussions further covered the preservation and management of archaeological sites, strengthening governance systems for properties listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, enhancing the capacity of local specialists, organizing training programmes and improving project management practices.
At the same time, Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan provided an update on the implementation of recommendations and proposals previously submitted by members of the International Advisory Committee on the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan within the country.
Particular attention during the meeting was devoted to the future activities of the International Advisory Committee on the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan for the period 2026–2027. Participants exchanged views on the key principles and procedures for further cooperation, as well as on the committee’s priority goals and objectives for the upcoming phase.
It was emphasized that special importance should be attached to the development of systematic measures aimed at training and enhancing the professional qualifications of local specialists in the field of cultural heritage in Uzbekistan, with the active involvement of international experts from the committee.
