“Die Welt” newspaper: Uzbekistan, where the Silk Road’s whisper endures and history meets the future

BERLIN, January 4. /Dunyo IA/.  The German newspaper “Die Welt” published an article dedicated to Uzbekistan’s tourism potential, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Under the headline “Uzbekistan - the land where the caravans of the Great Silk Road call through the centuries”, the article begins with the statement: “Whoever has not seen Samarkand misses the beauty of the world”. Uzbekistan is described as a country where history lives not only in books, but also in carved walls, blue domes and ancient streets.

The article emphasizes that the cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are not only trade centers but also crossroads of global civilization, where poets, scholars and merchants have met for centuries.

The publication notes that Samarkand seems to embrace the entire world: turquoise domes merge with the sky, and carved patterns tell stories of knowledge and beauty. Bukhara enchants with its quiet streets and Khiva is a pearl in the desert.

Special attention is given to the country’s natural landscapes - a combination of deserts, fertile oases, and snow-capped mountain peaks. German readers are introduced to Uzbek hospitality, traditional bread baking and tea rituals, as well as the national cuisine: aromatic plov, hot tandoor bread, various sweet melons, and dried fruits.

The article highlights Uzbekistan’s growing role in the international tourism market. According to UNWTO, in 2025 the country entered the top 7 globally in terms of international tourism growth. Over the first 11 months of the year, more than 10.7 million foreign guests visited Uzbekistan.

It also mentions conveniences for tourists: up to 30 days of visa-free stay and direct flights with Uzbekistan Airways from Frankfurt and Munich. The article concludes with the thought: “Whoever has visited Uzbekistan once will want to return again”.
