Uzbekistan exceeds uranium production forecast, reaching 7,000 tonnes in 2025

TASHKENT, February 8. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan has significantly exceeded its previously announced targets for uranium production and intends to further expand the sector in the coming years, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing Kazakhstan’s “inbusiness.kz”.

It is noted that in 2025 Uzbekistan increased its uranium production to 7,000 metric tonnes, significantly exceeding the government’s initial projections. At the same time, the republic plans to commence the development of four new uranium deposits within the year.

According to a newly published report, which for the first time disclosed official data on uranium production in the country, Uzbekistan’s total uranium reserves are estimated at 139,000 tonnes. These figures differ markedly from earlier projections by the Atomic Energy Agency, which had anticipated uranium output to exceed 4,200 tonnes in 2025.

As part of its national development strategy, Uzbekistan aims to increase annual uranium production to 7,200 tonnes by 2030. Speaking on the matter, Ural Yusupov, Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, stated that one of the projects, valued at USD 150 million, could begin production as early as July this year.
