Rich traditions of Uzbek architecture and art presented in Delhi

NEW DELHI, November 12. /Dunyo IA/. The rich traditions of Uzbek architecture and art were showcased at an international conference held at Jamia Millia Islamia University, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Sardor Rustambaev highlighted the invaluable contribution of the Uzbek people to the world’s artistic and architectural heritage. He emphasized that the country’s ancient cities — Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Tashkent, Shakhrisabz, and others — stand as living witnesses to centuries of history and the exceptional craftsmanship of Uzbek architects and artisans.

Forum participants highly appreciated the unique harmony of color, form, and calligraphy characteristic of Uzbekistan’s architectural art.

The conference also drew attention to the profound historical and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and India. It was noted that throughout the centuries, architects and builders of Central Asia and India found mutual inspiration in each other’s remarkable creations.

As a vivid example, participants cited the architectural resemblance between the Mausoleum of Amir Temur in Samarkand and the world-famous Taj Mahal in Agra. Both monuments share a mastery of symmetry, majestic portals, and intricate inlay work — elements that symbolize the enduring cultural connection between the two nations.

The forum also emphasized that Samarkand is currently hosting the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. The holding of such a prestigious event in Uzbekistan is recognized as a testament to the country’s contribution — through its scholars and thinkers — to world culture and science.

The head of Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission invited conference participants, scholars, and researchers to visit the newly built Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan in Tashkent and the renovated Imam Bukhari Complex in Samarkand.

Gratitude was expressed to Jamia Millia Islamia University for successfully running Uzbek language courses since 2004 — described as a "true bridge of friendship" between Uzbekistan and India.

The participation of Uzbek representatives in the international forum contributed to the further strengthening of cultural dialogue and the deepening of scholarly cooperation between Uzbekistan and India in preserving and studying their shared historical heritage.
