WARSAW, January 26. /Dunyo IA/. The premiere of the Uzbek film “Ayol Qismati” (“A Woman’s Destiny”) was held in Warsaw on the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing an article published by “Ambasador” - journal of an analytical centre.
The event brought together representatives of diplomatic, cultural and academic circles, as well as a broad audience with a keen interest in issues of security and human rights. The premiere was opened by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Amirsaid Agzamkhodjaev, who delivered opening remarks highlighting the importance of dialogue, empathy and the responsibility of the state towards its citizens.
Directed by Dilmurod Masaidov, the film addresses the complex and still highly relevant issue of the repatriation of Uzbek women and children from extremist camps abroad. The production is based on real-life accounts of participants in the “Mehr” humanitarian mission, carried out by the State Security Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on the instruction of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The mission has come to symbolise a new national approach centred on reintegration, state responsibility and humanitarian assistance.
The film’s central character, Sojida, is inspired by the real-life story of a woman from Andijan. Her narrative portrays the tragedy of an ordinary family caught in the grip of violence and extremism. Sojida’s husband and brother, having left for work, fall into the hands of the terrorist organization ISIS and end up in Syria. Social pressures force the family to reject her and her children, marking the beginning of her tragic journey across several countries to conflict zones.
Sojida spends ten years in militant camps, marries three times and each marriage brings new loss. She endures the deaths of her sons, the deterioration of her health and the collapse of her sense of security. Her story stands as a poignant testament to the suffering of women, often made victims by decisions beyond their control, while simultaneously struggling to ensure the survival of their own children.
The premiere of “Ayol Qismati” took place in September 2022 at the Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road”. Since then, the film has been translated into several languages and presented internationally as an important voice in discussions on the consequences of radicalization and the need for humanitarian solidarity.
The screening in Warsaw elicited deep emotional responses and prompted audiences to reflect on the role of the state in protecting its citizens, the importance of peace, and support for victims of armed conflict. “Ayol Qismati” is more than just a film; it is a call for empathy, responsibility and hope for a return to normal life even after the most dramatic events.
