ISLAMABAD, December 28. /Dunyo IA/. Taimur Fahad Khan — Research Associate (Europe & Russia), Centre for Strategic Perspectives, Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), Pakistan, commented to Dunyo Information Agency on the Address of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan:
-I read with great interest the Address of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan. I am confident that in the near future Uzbekistan will achieve an unprecedented level of development. In this regard, the Head of State outlined a number of specific goals, the achievement of which will require concerted efforts.
The President analyzed the problems constraining the country’s development and the factors contributing to their emergence. Particular attention was paid to further liberalization of the economy and the attraction of foreign investment in order to create new jobs.
Environmental issues also became a key theme of the Address. Environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, and water and climate challenges concern not only Uzbekistan. This global crisis is causing serious concern worldwide, including in Pakistan, where floods, droughts, and air pollution are observed. These environmental problems have a direct negative impact on people’s health. The President of Uzbekistan consistently emphasizes on international platforms the need for joint efforts by the global community to address such challenges and puts forward a number of important initiatives.
The goals outlined in the Address, including the creation of botanical and dendrological gardens, shaded streets for walking, as well as the proposal to expand the activities of the Central Asian Green University in 2026, could serve as an example for Pakistan as well.
It should be noted that since his election, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has attached great importance to the development of relations with foreign countries and international organizations. As a result, Uzbekistan has been actively promoting its proposals and initiatives on global issues. In the Address, the Head of State noted that efforts to strengthen Uzbekistan’s international standing will continue in 2026.
It was emphasized that Uzbekistan will continue cooperation with the IMF, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and other leading financial institutions, implementing projects aimed at technological modernization of the economy, infrastructure development, sustainable energy, and transport projects. Traditional and broad partnership will also be expanded within the CIS, the Turkic Council, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
I was very pleased that the Head of your State mentioned Pakistan among Uzbekistan’s key foreign partners. Relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan have indeed reached a high level in recent years. Measures are being implemented to strengthen cooperation across all areas. Many Pakistani investors are participating in joint projects in Uzbekistan, which is undoubtedly the result of the creation of favorable conditions for foreign partners, including representatives of Pakistan.
I am confident that the Address of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan will become an effective program for the country’s further development and for improving the well-being of the population.
