Railway workers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan expand capacity at cross-border junctions

ASTANA, March 2. /Dunyo IA/. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan intend to increase the volume of rail freight transport to 60 million tons per year, representing an almost twofold increase over current figures, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with reference to the “Kazinform” international news agency.
It is noted that to achieve this goal, a joint delegation from the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan conducted a working trip to key border railway facilities. Parties synchronized the operations of border hubs and coordinated measures to eliminate infrastructure constraints affecting throughput capacity.
Among the priority steps is the expansion of the capacity of border crossing points. At the Saryagash section, plans are in place to increase traffic to 40 pairs of trains per day, up from the current 36, while at the Oasis crossing, the target is 10 pairs. Special importance is given to the development of the Syrdarya crossing. Following the commissioning of the strategic Darbaza - Maktaaral section, its capacity is also expected to reach 10 pairs of trains per day.
“By the end of 2025, the volume of rail transport between the two countries exceeded 32.3 million tons, which is 16% higher than the 2024 figure”, - report states.
It is emphasized that the parties view the development of railway communication as a vital element in deepening bilateral economic cooperation and increasing the efficiency of transport and logistics links in Central Asia.
