Ambassador of Uzbekistan Holds Meetings with Leading Universities in East Sussex, UK

• 113LONDON, June 1. /Dunyo IA/. During a visit to East Sussex, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ravshan Usmanov, held a series of meetings with the leadership of leading higher education institutions in the region, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
In talks with the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Sussex, Sasha Roseneil, the British side expressed strong interest in further expanding cooperation in education between the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. The university also confirmed its readiness to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with Uzbek higher education institutions in areas such as joint educational programs, academic staff and student exchanges, research collaboration, and professional development initiatives.
Following the meeting, the university leadership expressed readiness to consider the possibility of establishing a campus in Uzbekistan.
As part of the visit, a round table was also organized with researchers and professors of the University of Sussex, during which the British side was briefed on large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, including the modernization of the education system. Information was also presented on Uzbekistan’s economy, its investment attractiveness, the implementation of major green investment projects, and the development of cooperation in culture, arts, tourism, science, youth policy, and the study of the country’s scientific and spiritual heritage.
The University of Sussex, founded in 1959 as the University College of Sussex and granted university status in 1961, currently hosts around 18,000 students and employs approximately 2,000 academic staff. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs across natural and exact sciences, humanities, social sciences, business, languages, arts, and other fields.
During a separate meeting with the leadership of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), both sides discussed prospects for cooperation. The British side expressed interest in developing collaboration with medical universities in Uzbekistan, particularly in paediatrics, endocrinology, and the treatment of infectious diseases.
BSMS, established in 2002 as a partnership between the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex, is one of the leading medical education institutions in the United Kingdom. Its BMBS program lasts five years, admits around 200 students annually, and introduces clinical practice from the first year of study.
