Issues concerning the preparation of the nomination “Zaamin Mountains” for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List discussed

• 143PARIS, October 5. /Dunyo IA/. Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan to UNESCO organized an online meeting dedicated to the preparation process of the nomination dossier for the natural site “Zaamin Mountains” for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Discussion was attended by representatives of the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, Cultural Heritage Agency, “Zaamin” National Nature Park, as well as international experts on world heritage.
“Zaamin Mountains” are included in the Tentative List of World Heritage of Uzbekistan and represent a unique natural complex possessing high ecological, scientific and aesthetic value.
During the meeting, it was noted that the territory of the Zaamin Mountains is characterized by an exceptional diversity of landscapes, ranging from mountain forests and rare juniper forests to alpine pastures and rock formations. The region serves as an important center of biodiversity, hosting rare and endemic species of flora and fauna, including endangered species.
It was emphasized that “Zaamin” Nature Park represents one of the most valuable segments of the mountain ecosystems of the Turkestan Range, having preserved a high degree of natural integrity and ecological sustainability.
During the meeting, participants discussed the structure of the nomination dossier, the requirements of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, as well as further steps for preparing the materials, including conducting additional scientific research, cartographic work and analysing the state of conservation of the site.
International experts noted the significant potential of the “Zaamin Mountains” for successful advancement into the World Heritage List, emphasizing the importance of an integrated approach, inter-agency cooperation, and high-quality justification of the site's outstanding universal value.
Participants agreed to continue joint work and regular consultations to ensure the timely and professional preparation of the nomination dossier in accordance with the requirements of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
