ROME, October 5. /Dunyo IA/. Samarkand will host the 6th International Wheat Congress, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Italy, International Organizing Committee of the International Wheat Congress has confirmed the selection of Uzbekistan as the host country for the 6th International Wheat Congress, which will take place in 2030 in the city of Samarkand.
International Wheat Congress is one of the key events of the global wheat community and serves as an important platform for leading specialists, scientists, representatives of government bodies and the industry to discuss achievements in the fields of wheat breeding, genetics, genomics and agronomy.
Congress is held biennially. Recent events have gathered between 800 and 900 delegates and the number of participants at the Samarkand Congress is expected to exceed one thousand people.
In May of this year, Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Italy, submitted a proposal to the organizers to host the 6th International Wheat Congress in Samarkand. In addition to Uzbekistan, bids to host the congress were submitted by Argentina, Ethiopia, France, Greece, Morocco, Nepal and Turkiye.
Decision to host the event in Samarkand was made taking into account a number of factors, including the significance of wheat cultivation for Uzbekistan and Central Asia, the attention paid in the country to scientific research in the field of grain production, as well as the availability of modern and high-quality infrastructure required to host an international level event.
