XI'AN, August 3. /Dunyo IA/. Sun Weidong, Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the “China–Central Asia” Mechanism, commented for Dunyo Information Agency on the outcomes of the high-level Uzbek–Kyrgyz summit held on July 31^st – August 1^st and the first informal meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan in Cholpon-Ata.

He noted the agreements reached by Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on strengthening intergovernmental dialogue and expanding cooperation in economic, energy, logistics, agricultural and cultural spheres.

According to him, the most crucial outcome of the visit was the signing of the Treaty on Alliance Relations, which marked new avenues for long-term, mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries. This development holds immense significance not only for bilateral relations but also for the peace, stability and unity of the entire Central Asian region.

Sun Weidong described Uzbekistan as a close friend and strategic partner of China, noting that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Xi Jinping, the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership has entered the best period in its history.

He recalled that the third China–Uzbekistan Interregional Cooperation Forum was held in Xi'an in May and in June, John Lee, Chief Executive of Hong Kong, made his first-ever visit to Uzbekistan leading a delegation, during which more than 30 agreements were concluded.

Separately, Secretary-General highlighted the construction of the “China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan” (CKU) railway as a project of paramount strategic importance, noting the agreement between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to jointly develop trade and logistics infrastructure along the route.

Speaking on the “China–Central Asia” format as a whole, Sun Weidong emphasized that the mechanism, which integrates 14 ministerial cooperation platforms, demonstrates a multifaceted structure of interaction. He noted that the parties are deepening cooperation in the field of new quality productive forces - namely renewable energy, modern agriculture, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence. As a concrete example, he cited the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) in Shanghai, counting Uzbekistan among its founding member states. According to the Secretary-General, the Secretariat is currently undertaking preparations for the seventh China–Central Asia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in the second half of this year, as well as the third China–Central Asia Summit next year.
