Heritage of Alisher Navoi and Zahiruddin Muhammad Babur: A bridge of friendship between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan

KABUL, February 16. /Dunyo IA/.  In Afghanistan, a scholarly and literary conference titled “In memory of our great thinkers” was held at the Taj Mahal Palace, commemorating the birthdays of Alisher Navoi and Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event brought together representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Culture and Information, members of Uzbek, Tajik, Pashtun and Turkmen community organizations, activists, journalists, as well as delegates from the “Union of Afghan Mongols” and “Union of Afghan Turkmens”.

In his address, Oybek Usmanov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan, emphasized the historical continuity of Uzbek-Afghan relations, the importance of preserving shared cultural heritage and the development of economic cooperation. He noted that, despite the passage of centuries, Alisher Navoi and Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur remain spiritual bridges connecting the two peoples.

Historian Mahbubulla Turan highlighted in his presentation the need for deeper study of Navoi’s scholarly legacy, the expansion of the lexicon of his works and the republication of the great thinker’s writings.

Abdulsattar Khan, head of the “Union of Afghan Mongols”, highlighted the significant role of Babur’s empire in world history, emphasizing its influence on state formation and cultural development in the region. Meanwhile, Rahmatulla Turkman, representative of the “Union of Afghan Turkmens”, recalled Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur’s role in Afghan history, noting that he restored Kabul’s capital following a devastating earthquake, thus securing his place as one of the city’s architects.

Shahriyor Ibrohimov, correspondent for the newspaper “Jadid”, shared his impressions of visiting the burial sites of Abu Rayhan Beruni, Alisher Navoi, and Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur in Afghanistan. He emphasized that the scholarly legacy of these great figures is being systematically studied in Uzbekistan.

Afghan journalist Nisar Ahmad Tuygun called for elevating the study of Navoi and Babur’s works to a new level and for more actively integrating their spiritual and intellectual heritage into contemporary social life.

During the conference’s discussion sessions, Afghan youth recited ghazals and rubaiyat from the works of Navoi and Babur, creating an atmosphere of deep respect for the classical legacy.

The event also featured an exhibition of books, journals and newspapers published in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

The conference received wide coverage across leading Afghan television channels and media outlets, including “RTA-Melli”, “Tolo News”, “Ariana News”, “Salam Watandar” and “TV 1”.
