Uzbek Plov in the Greek Capital

ATHENS, April 2. /Dunyo IA/. On March 31, a celebration titled “Navruz in Athens: A Festival of Culture Uniting People” was organized in the Greek capital. The event brought together compatriots, ethnic Greeks from Tashkent living in Greece, and representatives from the municipalities of Athens and Kallithea, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At the spring event, which was held in a festive atmosphere and warmly received by Athenians, it was noted that the holiday uniquely highlighted the cultural richness and the value of Uzbekistan's traditions.

Participants also had the opportunity to enjoy Uzbek cuisine, with the famous Uzbek pilaf and traditional flatbreads as the highlights. They watched with great interest as compatriots and ethnic Greek women from Tashkent performed traditional Uzbek dances in national costumes.

In his speech, Xenophon Lambrakis, Chairman of the “Greek-Eurasian Alliance”, noted that this ancient holiday marking the arrival of spring is associated with the beginning of a new life cycle, which also serves as the New Year for many peoples of Central Asia and the Middle East. Today, it is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It was emphasized that although Navruz is celebrated by various nationalities across different countries, it retains a universal symbolism of renewal and hope. Above all, Navruz is a holiday that unites people through gatherings, joy, and shared participation.
