Uzbekistan’s new UN representative arrives in Geneva

GENEVA, March 7. /"Dunyo" IA /. The new Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Office and other international organizations, Eldiyor Toshmatov, has commenced his duties in Geneva following his recent arrival.

Prior to assuming his new role in Geneva, Eldiryor Toshmatov served as the head of the Secretariat of the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. Aged 41, he brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having graduated from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Academy of State and Public Construction under the President of Uzbekistan, and Webster University in Tashkent.
Eldiyor Toshmatov’s career in diplomacy began at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of Uzbekistan, which is now known as the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade as a leading specialist. Since 2008, he has held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, steadily advancing from attaché to adviser at the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan in Geneva. From 2017 to 2019, he served as assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, subsequently assuming roles as the head of the Minister’s Secretariat and later leading the Organizational Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 2022, he has served as the head of the Secretariat of the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
The new representative is proficient in English, German, Russian, and Turkish.
He succeeds Ulugbek Lapasov in Geneva, who has been appointed as the head of the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN in New York since August 2023.
