ARUSHA, October 6. /Dunyo IA/.  A parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva, is participating in the 153^rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which commenced its work on October 5^th in the Tanzanian city of Arusha, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the upper house of parliament, at the official opening ceremony of the Assembly held at the Arusha International Conference Centre, President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan, addressed the participants with welcoming remarks. In her speech, she emphasized the vital role of parliaments in representing the interests of the people, the necessity of justifying the trust placed in parliamentarians and the importance of promoting pressing initiatives at both national and international levels.

Director for Member Parliaments and External Relations of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Anda Filip, also addressed the event, noting that despite differences in political views, it is crucial to overcome existing obstacles to ensuring dialogue between parliaments.

At the official opening ceremony of the Assembly, IPU leadership highly appreciated the active participation of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan in the activities of the organization and its contribution to the development of international inter-parliamentary cooperation.

In particular, it was stated that in April 2025, 150^th Anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was organized at a high level in Tashkent and in September 2026, the 12^th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians was held in Samarkand. It was emphasized that the successful hosting of these prestigious events in Uzbekistan testifies to the high appreciation of our country's initiatives to develop international parliamentary diplomacy, strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue and expand multilateral cooperation.

It is worth noting that within the framework of the Assembly, meetings of all statutory bodies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union are taking place, including the Governing Council, standing committees, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and Committee on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.

Upon the conclusion of the Assembly, it is envisaged to adopt an outcome document on the main theme of the general debate.
