ISLAMABAD, May 16. /Dunyo IA/. The popular Pakistani electronic publication “The Gulf Observer” has published an article titled “Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan: A New Stage of Strategic Cooperation in the Field of Ecology”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
At the beginning of the article, the author notes that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in the field of ecology and environmental protection is reaching a new level. This interaction encompasses not only bilateral initiatives but also active collaboration on international platforms.
The publication highlights that the foundation of this interaction is the environmental protection cooperation agreement signed on September 11, 2008, in Baku, with particular emphasis on climate forums.
Contacts within climate forums, specifically regarding the transition to sustainable economies, are increasing in importance, with discussions at COP28 and the Nairobi UN Environment Assembly focusing on preparation for the Baku COP29 summit. This dialogue underscores the commitment to regional economic cooperation on environmental issues.
According to the Pakistani digital publication, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have joined the “Glaciers to Farms” regional program, implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund. The program entails mobilizing 3.5 billion dollars to enhance the resilience of agriculture and infrastructure in the context of melting glaciers.
Prospects for further cooperation span a range of areas. Specifically, the sides are considering the exchange of experience in air quality monitoring and the development of green urban planning, expanding scientific research based at the Central Asian Green University (Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies), as well as interaction in the management of specially protected natural areas.
“Ecological cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan is consistently developing, covering a wide spectrum of areas from the climate agenda, scientific research and youth initiatives to international cooperation”, - “The Gulf Observer” concludes.
