“The World News”: Uzbekistan advances regional trade connectivity in negotiations on Karachi port transit

ISLAMABAD, January 20. /Dunyo IA/.  Pakistan’s online publication “The World News” reports on the deepening partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, eye expansion of industrial, investment and logistics sectors, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The publication notes that Uzbekistan and Pakistan discussed prospects for advancing international transport connectivity, including the expansion of cooperation within the framework of the Pakistan – China – Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan international transport corridor via the Khunjerab Pass. The corridor is viewed as a strategically important route for enhancing regional trade, transit efficiency and interregional economic integration.

It is underscored that the discussions took place during a meeting between Shokhrukh Gulamov, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and Shoaib Ahmad Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC), held as part of an official visit by the Uzbek delegation to Pakistan.

It is noted that the primary objective of the visit was to explore avenues for deepening cooperation in the industrial, investment and logistics sectors, with a particular focus on enhancing transit connectivity between the two nations.

According to the source, during the visit, the delegation also conducted a tour of the Port of Karachi, where discussions centered on utilizing the port’s infrastructure to expand transit routes and facilitate Uzbek products’ access to international markets. Following the visit, the sides agreed to continue consultations and move forward with the detailed development of joint initiatives aimed at improving regional transport connectivity.

The article further notes that Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with Pakistan reached USD 434.4 million from January through November 2025, marking a 16.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024 (USD 371.5 million). When compared to the period from January to November 2023, which saw a turnover of USD 356.0 million, the figure reflects a 22.0% growth, underscoring the sustained expansion of economic relations between the two countries.
