Uzbekistan and Qatar expand portfolio of joint investment projects

DOHA, April 17. /Dunyo IA/. Qatari magazine “Business Leaders” has published an article titled “Qatar's Investment in Uzbekistan sending a strong signal towards robust bilateral equations”, focusing on Uzbekistan's investment potential and the development of Uzbek-Qatari ties, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication features an exclusive commentary by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ashraf Khojayev, who noted that in a short period, cooperation between the two countries has reached a qualitatively new level. According to him, following the opening of the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in Doha in 2023, the interaction has become more systematic, active and results-oriented.

The article highlights that investment success hinges on building confidence, not just on the volume of capital, with the entry of “Nebras Power” into Uzbekistan signalling a significant step in the nation's energy infrastructure development. This move acts as a crucial indicator to attract further international investment into the region.

It is also reported that the portfolio of joint projects is expanding. Negotiations are currently underway on initiatives in the fields of transport infrastructure, real estate, tourism, education, agriculture and information technology.

Publication indicates that Uzbekistan is consistently strengthening its investment climate. Since 2017, more than USD 100 billion in foreign investment has been attracted to the country's economy. To achieve the goal of doubling the GDP by 2030, approximately USD 200 billion in investment will be required.

A separate focus is placed on the development of the digital economy. It is noted that the agreements reached with “Invest Qatar” at “Web Summit 2025” have become the basis for establishing sustainable interaction in the IT sector. Uzbekistan is positioned as a regional IT hub with favorable conditions for investors, including tax incentives and support programs for foreign companies.

As the diplomat noted, over the next two years, the parties will focus on deepening investment cooperation, developing infrastructure and energy projects, expanding trade and logistics ties, as well as collaborating in the fields of innovation, finance and agriculture.
