Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Dhaka sets out practical steps to deepen trade and economic cooperation with Bangladesh

• 517DHAKA, November 30. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Bangladesh, based in New Delhi, Sardor Rustambayev, paid a working visit to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
A series of high-level meetings were held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, as well as representatives of the government and the country’s business community, to explore new avenues for elevating bilateral ties to a practical and forward-looking level.
During the discussions, officials of the diplomatic mission provided detailed information on the steady and dynamic socio-economic growth taking place in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, alongside the wide-ranging reforms being implemented across the country.
At a meeting with Nazrul Islam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, the two sides noted the positive momentum in Uzbekistan–Bangladesh relations. The senior Bangladeshi official highly praised the comprehensive reforms underway in Uzbekistan, describing the country as a leading economic force with vast potential in Central Asia.
The parties identified textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, mineral fertilizers, and tourism as key priority sectors for future cooperation.
One of the central topics of discussion was the establishment of direct flights between Tashkent and Dhaka, which both sides agreed would significantly enhance economic, business, and people-to-people exchanges.
Bangladesh welcomed the proposal to organize a business forum in Tashkent within the framework of the upcoming Fourth Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission scheduled for the near future.
Talks with Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Trade, Textiles, Jute, Aviation, and Tourism, were described as constructive and productive. Drawing on his extensive experience in the textile sector, he expressed strong interest in the ongoing transformation in Uzbekistan, particularly the reforms in the textile industry.
Highlighting Uzbekistan’s strategic geographical position, Sheikh Bashir Uddin noted that the country could become a key manufacturing and transit hub for Bangladeshi companies seeking access to Russian and European markets.
As a sign of serious and practical intent, he confirmed his readiness to lead a delegation of major Bangladeshi companies to Uzbekistan in 2026.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Dhaka also organized a presentation on the country’s economic and investment potential. The event was attended by Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Minister of Commerce of Bangladesh, as well as heads of leading chambers of commerce and major companies.
Participants expressed strong interest in exploring opportunities for creating joint ventures in the textile and pharmaceutical sectors and noted the favorable conditions Uzbekistan is offering to foreign investors.
Representatives of Bangladesh’s business community announced their intention to organize a business mission to Uzbekistan in 2026.
The outcomes of the visit to Dhaka laid a solid foundation for developing practical joint projects and significantly increasing bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh.
