BUDAPEST, February 27. /Dunyo IA/. Diplomats of Uzbekistan have held talks with the Rector of Semmelweis University, Professor Béla Merkely, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Rector noted the possibility of Uzbekistan’s representatives participating in the Clinical Science Scholars (CSS) Program, implemented by Harvard Medical School in partnership with Semmelweis University. Rector of Semmelweis University underscored his interest in extending invitations to Uzbek higher education institutions that maintain partnership ties with the university.
Launched in 2023, the program is designed to provide in-depth training in contemporary clinical research methodologies and advanced international best practices. Upon completion, participants gain comprehensive expertise in the design and conduct of clinical trials, scientific data analysis, preparation of grant applications and the principles of managing medical research teams.
The 2026-2027 academic cycle is a nine-month program that combines in-person and remote formats. The first session will be held in Budapest from July 27 to 30, followed by an online session from December 1 to 4, with the final in-person session taking place at Harvard Medical School (USA) from March 16 to 19, 2027. During the program, participants develop their own research projects: ten best works will be presented at a webinar, while the three finalists will have the opportunity to defend their projects at the final seminar in Boston.
The learning process is organized in a hybrid format, combining teamwork, regular webinars, and an extensive video lecture course featuring over 85 recorded lectures. The program is centered around 3 intensive training modules, with the curriculum built upon 5 core disciplines: epidemiology, research ethics, biostatistics, clinical trials and leadership and team skills.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, 70 scholarship spots have been allocated for Semmelweis University’s partner institutions. Specifically, two participants from Uzbekistan will be eligible for a 50% tuition scholarship. Additionally, 20 other international applicants may be admitted to the program at a reduced tuition rate. In addition to Uzbekistan, Semmelweis's partner universities across Asia, as well as Central and Eastern Europe, are invited to participate.
The program is currently open for applications from young clinicians, PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents until May 20. Applications are submitted via the Harvard Medical School website, where candidates can upload their CV, letter of motivation, and letter of recommendation. Further information is available on the Semmelweis University website.
