Uzbekistan Delegation participates in International Women’s Rights Conference in Cairo

CAIRO, February 4. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Zulayho Makhkamova, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs of Uzbekistan, took part in the international conference “Strengthening the role of religious, educational and Media Discourse in protecting and promoting women’s rights”, held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The forum brought together high-level delegations from 57 countries, heads of relevant government agencies, religious leaders and representatives of international organizations.
In her address, Zulaykho Makhkamova outlined ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at supporting women and strengthening the family institution. She emphasized fostering a healthy societal worldview based on a religious-educational approach as well as countering extremism through education and public awareness.
A series of bilateral meetings were held. In discussions with Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women (NCW) of Egypt, the delegations explored state policies and practical mechanisms to ensure gender equality and enhance women’s socio-economic participation. The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop institutional cooperation and exchange best practices.
In a meeting with Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister for Women Affairs of Nigeria, discussions focused on supporting female entrepreneurship, strengthening social protection and expanding women’s participation in sustainable development processes. Both sides expressed readiness to implement joint programs.
Uzbekistan’s experience in preparing youth for family life drew particular interest from Asma Jabri, Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly of Tunisia. The parties agreed to study these educational programs and explore opportunities for adaptation.
During talks with Morocco’s Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Naima Ben Yahya, discussions centered on enhancing women’s employment, social support for families, and the implementation of joint projects.
A special focus of the visit was placed on education. The delegation held a meeting with Nahla Al-Saidi, Advisor to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Head of the Education Development Center for International Students. The discussions covered study conditions, accommodation and the legal status of international students in Egypt, including Uzbek citizens. An agreement was reached to expand cooperation in addressing the educational and social needs of Uzbek students.
The delegation also visited the Center and met with Uzbek students. During the dialogue, issues related to academic programs, living conditions, and research activities were discussed. It was emphasized that protecting the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens abroad remains a key priority of the country’s state policy. Additionally, an initiative was agreed upon to establish a “Museum of Uzbekistan” at the Center for young Uzbeks studying overseas.
A separate meeting was held with Uzbek women residing in Egypt. They were briefed on reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at supporting women, ensuring employment, expanding access to education and enhancing socio-economic participation. Following the meeting, a Council of Uzbek Women Abroad was established, comprising active members who will coordinate the Council’s activities, liaise with government bodies and provide legal and organizational support.
The visit contributed to strengthening international cooperation in the protection of women’s rights, expanding Uzbekistan’s humanitarian ties with Egypt and other countries, and supporting Uzbek citizens living and studying abroad. As a result of the discussions, agreements were reached to exchange experiences, develop institutional cooperation and implement joint initiatives in the social and educational spheres.
