MADRID, May 15. /Dunyo IA/. The recent visit of the Tashkent Region delegation, led by regional Hokim Zoir Mirzayev, to Spain has marked an important stage in the development of Uzbek-Spanish economic cooperation, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Within the framework of the visit's program, a large-scale business forum, B2B negotiations, and meetings with representatives of municipal authorities and leading Spanish companies in the fields of agro-industry, greenhouse farming and innovative technologies were held in the Galicia region.

The key event of the visit was the “Uzbekistan – Galicia” Business Forum, held in the city of Vigo with the assistance of the Vigo Chamber of Commerce. The event was attended by official representatives of the two countries, heads of more than 20 Spanish companies, investors and representatives of business circles and sector-specific organizations.

The forum was opened by the President of the Chamber of Commerce, José García Costa. In his speech, he noted that relations between Uzbekistan and Spain have been dynamically developing in recent years, and the level of mutual trust creates a solid foundation for expanding trade and economic cooperation.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Spain, Farrukh Tursunov, emphasized that political and economic ties between the two states are reaching a qualitatively new level. At the end of 2025, the volume of mutual trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Spain reached USD 96 million, demonstrating steady positive dynamics.

Addressing the forum participants, the hokim of Tashkent Region, Zoir Mirzayev, expressed gratitude to the Spanish side for the warm welcome and highlighted the region's interest in developing a long-term, practical partnership with Spanish companies.

During the presentation of the investment potential of the Tashkent Region, promising areas of cooperation were showcased, including the creation of modern greenhouse complexes, the development of fish farming, the deep processing of fruit and vegetable products, viticulture, the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies, as well as joint projects in the fields of construction materials production and kaolin processing.

Special attention within the framework of the forum was paid to industrial cooperation and technological exchange. As Zoir Mirzayev noted, the Tashkent Region is interested not only in expanding export-import operations but also in establishing joint ventures, introducing innovative solutions and developing sustainable, long-term investment projects.

Within the framework of the forum, B2B meetings and negotiations were held, covering a wide range of areas, including fish farming and fish processing, greenhouse farming, mushroom cultivation, livestock breeding, logistics, processing of agricultural products, as well as the textile and food industries.

Following the negotiations, preliminary agreements were reached with the Spanish company “Feeding Systems S.L.” on the implementation of a project to create a fish farming cluster in the Tashkent Region. The parties agreed to continue negotiations on the technical and financial parameters of cooperation, with the subsequent signing of a memorandum in Madrid.

In addition, Hokim Zoir Mirzayev held separate talks with the heads and representatives of a number of leading Spanish companies operating in the fields of winemaking, greenhouse farming, food industry equipment manufacturing, textiles, automotive components, environmental technologies and dairy products.

An important part of the visit was the meeting between the Tashkent Region delegation and the Mayor of the Tomiño municipality, Uxío Benítez.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Farrukh Tursunov and the Hokim of the Kibray district, Muzaffar Rashidov.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in the field of greenhouse farming, the exchange of experience, and the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies. The Uzbek side showed particular interest in the experience of the Tomiño municipality, which is considered one of the leading centers of greenhouse farming and agro-industry in the Galicia region.

Tomiño is also known as one of Spain's most progressive municipalities in the field of sustainable development, the implementation of “green” technologies, energy-efficient solutions and agricultural support. The parties expressed interest in further developing direct contacts and exchanging best practices.

In continuation of the visit, the delegation visited the Spanish company “Ferralesa”, which specializes in modern greenhouse complexes. The total area of the company's greenhouse facility spans 5 hectares. During negotiations with the company's CEO, Fernando Otero Villarino, issues regarding the introduction of modern greenhouse technologies and the feasibility of implementing joint projects in Uzbekistan were discussed.

Furthermore, representatives of the delegation familiarized themselves with innovative geothermal heating and cooling systems for greenhouses offered by the company “EcoForest”. During the meeting, company representative Julian Tavernier spoke in detail about the technical capabilities and economic efficiency of these solutions.

According to the Spanish side, the use of geothermal technologies allows for a significant reduction in heating and electricity costs, with the full payback period for such projects being 4–5 years.

During the negotiations, the possibility of implementing a pilot project in the Tashkent Region on a 1-hectare area with the introduction of a modern geothermal heating and cooling system was discussed. Representatives of the “EcoForest” company expressed interest in the practical implementation of this project.

Within the framework of the business forum, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the Vigo Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Tashkent Region, which will serve as an additional mechanism for developing direct business contacts between the regions of the two countries.

Following the visit, the parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached, the contacts established, and the initiatives put forward would become a solid foundation for the implementation of new joint investment projects and the further strengthening of economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain.
