Uzbekistan and Malaysia conclude key agreements to boost agricultural cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18. /Dunyo IA/. Within the framework of the official visit of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, Mohamad bin Sabu, to Uzbekistan, agreements were reached to expand strategic cooperation in the agricultural sphere, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the Malaysian publication “The Star”.
The agreements were reached during a bilateral meeting between Mohamad bin Sabu and the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, held in Tashkent.
The parties discussed the development of cooperation in areas such as aquaculture, sustainable irrigation technologies, research and development (R&D), as well as the implementation of smart technologies to enhance agricultural efficiency.
Malaysian side declared its readiness to share expertise in the fields of aquaculture, seafood production, and quality control systems, including the shrimp farming sector. Furthermore, the possibilities of applying “biofloc” technology in the aquaculture industry of Uzbekistan were noted.
The Uzbek side expressed keen interest in attracting advanced Malaysian expertise, technologies and investments to develop fisheries and strengthen the nation's food security.
Participants supported the continuation of negotiations between the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture of Uzbekistan, with the aim of finalizing the preparation of a memorandum of understanding in the scientific sphere.
The Malaysian Minister also extended an invitation to Uzbekistan to participate in the MAHA–2026 International Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition, which will be held from August 28 to September 6 of the current year.
Within the framework of the visit, an official ceremony was also held to launch the operations of the “Meraque Group company in Uzbekistan.
