LONDON, May 4. /Dunyo IA/. The British online publication “The Independent” has published an article highlighting Uzbekistan’s growing appeal as a tourist destination, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The article places special focus on Samarkand, describing it as a city that has inspired English poets and writers for centuries and is historically associated with figures such as Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, and Amir Temur. It notes that both Samarkand and Uzbekistan more broadly have seen a significant increase in tourist interest since the country gained independence.
According to the publication, Uzbekistan remains an underrated but safe and accessible destination. Economic stability, favourable exchange rates, and relatively low prices make it particularly attractive for international visitors.
The article also highlights the country’s traditional crafts and fashion industry, including Bukhara carpets, silk products, and suzani embroidery. Special attention is given to designer Madina Kasimbaeva, whose works are in demand in the global fashion industry. Uzbek textiles and the ikat technique are described as having an influence on international fashion brands and appearing in global runway shows.
Among key tourist destinations, the article lists Samarkand with the Registan Square and Gur-Emir Mausoleum, Bukhara with the Poi-Kalyan complex, and Khiva with the Itchan Kala historic district. These cities form the core route of the Silk Road heritage tourism.
Uzbek cuisine is also praised, with mentions of plov, samsa, and traditional non bread, alongside the country’s strong culture of hospitality. The capital Tashkent is described as a modern, rapidly developing city with new architecture, cultural initiatives, and a growing business environment.
The publication concludes that Uzbekistan is becoming an increasingly promising tourism destination, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and modern development.
