Riga hosts celebration of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day

RIGA, September 8. /Dunyo IA/. An official reception was held in Riga to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the state independence of Uzbekistan, as well as the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Latvia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event was attended by representatives of the Adminstration of the President of Latvia, the Saeima, the Cabinet of Ministers, heads and senior officials of relevant ministries, university rectors, mayors, prominent business leaders, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Riga, as well as compatriots.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan Timur Rakhmanov, welcoming the guests, acquainted them with the key points of the head of our state’s address delivered at the solemn ceremony commemorating the 34th anniversary of independence held at the "Yangi O'zbekiston" Park. He also informed the attendees about the Republic’s achievements since gaining independence, the extensive reforms and modernization processes undertaken in recent years, as well as the current status and prospects for the development of Uzbek-Latvian relations.
The attention of the reception participants was also drawn to the upcoming 43rd UNESCO General Conference scheduled to be held in Samarkand. It was noted that Uzbekistan’s active and pragmatic foreign policy strengthens the country’s role and authority not only within the region but also on the global stage, enhancing its influence on international affairs.
As part of the official reception, an exhibition of Uzbek ceramic works was held, showcasing the country’s tourism potential. The event also featured a concert program with performances by the People’s Artist Gulomjon Yakubov and the ensemble "Xalqlar Do'stligi".
Participants highly appreciated the achievements of the New Uzbekistan. Particular emphasis was placed on the balanced and farsighted nature of the country’s President’s foreign policy, which has led to a steady increase in Uzbekistan’s prestige on the global stage and its growing influence on the international agenda in recent years.
Nina Linde, director of the Institute of Economics at the Latvian Academy of Sciences:
– In recent years, Uzbekistan has made a significant leap forward. The country demonstrates steady economic growth and implements comprehensive reforms, ranging from the liberalization of the currency market to the digitalization of public services, while also fostering a favorable climate for investment. These measures enhance international business confidence and strengthen the country’s attractiveness as a reliable partner. Equally important is Uzbekistan’s active development of human capital, with a strong focus on its young population and education.
Aydin Askerov, director of the Institute for Central Asian and Middle Eastern Studies:
– I would like to warmly congratulate the friendly Uzbek people on their Independence Day. In this regard, I wish our Uzbek friends well-being, continued success, peace, and further prosperity.
Latvia and Uzbekistan have established the closest and most trusting relations. Our countries are not only friends but also close partners in the fields of economy, development, and security. Alongside this, people-to-people diplomacy and warm relations between our peoples and regions are actively developing.
