NEW DELHI, December 11. /Dunyo IA/. Discussions have officially commenced in the Indian capital on the possible inscription of the Karakalpak Yurt onto UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, as part of the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have jointly submitted a nomination for the inscription of the traditional dwelling of nomadic Turkic peoples - the yurt - to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
During the Committee’s deliberations on the nomination, statements are expected from Begis Temirbaev, Minister of Culture of Karakalpakstan, and Makset Karlybaev, Director of the Institute of Humanities of the Karakalpak Branch of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
As reported earlier, the 20th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage unanimously approved the inscription of the art of crafting and performing on the Karakalpak qobyz into the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.
