Ambassador of Uzbekistan and leadership of leading Indian company discuss joint textile production

KOLKATA, March 12. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Sardor Rustambaev, held negotiations with the leadership of “Rupa”, one of India’s largest manufacturers of knitwear and underwear, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The meeting with Ramesh Agarwal, company’s Director, took place in West Bengal and focused on the prospects of establishing joint textile production in Uzbekistan.

“Rupa” is a leading player in the Indian market with a recognizable international brand. The company produces more than 8,000 clothing items for men, women and children, with an annual turnover of approximately 150 million USD. Products of “Rupa” are well-known to consumers and are exported to countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe.

Ramesh Agarwal confirmed the company’s strategic plans to enter the markets of Central Asia and the CIS. He noted that, given the favourable investment climate and broad opportunities created for foreign investors in Uzbekistan, the company is ready to move forward with practical project implementation. The parties discussed the possibility of establishing a joint venture with one of Uzbekistan’s textile factories to subsequently develop new export markets.

These negotiations mark a new phase in Uzbek-Indian trade and economic cooperation. The interest of a major company like “Rupa” in Uzbekistan represents a step toward integrating the country into global value chains in the light industry sector.

Collaboration with Rupa will allow local producers to adopt advanced Indian technologies and quality standards in knitwear production, increasing the competitiveness of Uzbek products. It will also contribute to the creation of new jobs and the expansion of Uzbekistan’s export geography through the partner’s global distribution networks.

The interest of a recognized Indian leader confirms the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s textile sector reforms and is expected to attract other investors from South Asia.

The agreements reached create favorable opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation and advancing Uzbek-Indian partnership in the light industry to a qualitatively new level. Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to conduct a detailed study of production facilities in Uzbekistan to move toward the practical stage of project implementation.
