Stefan Krajewski: Uzbekistan is a key partner for Poland in Central Asia

TASHKENT, December 1. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland, led by Minister Stefan Krajewski, paid a visit to Uzbekistan, where Minister outlined plans to enhance bilateral cooperation in an exclusive interview with a Dunyo IA correspondent.

Welcome to Uzbekistan. Based on your visit, which areas of agricultural cooperation between Poland and Uzbekistan do you consider the most promising?

- This is my first visit to Uzbekistan, in Tashkent, and I am truly impressed by the level of organization, the warm reception, and the substantive discussions on expanding trade relations between our countries. Uzbekistan is a key partner for Poland in Central Asia, and we are determined to develop these relations in a systematic and consistent manner.

We see significant potential in exporting Polish agricultural products, including vegetables, fruits—particularly Polish apples—meat and dairy products, and confectionery. At the same time, we are open to importing Uzbek goods, which will help balance bilateral trade.

Considering the growing export potential of Uzbekistan, is there a plan to expand Polish investments in the processing and storage of agricultural products in the country?

- One of the key topics discussed was the establishment of trade houses in both Poland and Uzbekistan. These hubs will facilitate faster exchange of goods and ensure stable supplies. While general consultations are still underway, working groups are already being formed to address specific solutions and planning.

Poland views Uzbekistan as a promising partner. We share similar challenges, including climate change and shortages of rainfall and water resources. All of this calls for new sustainable solutions, including joint scientific projects.

Our institutions and universities can cooperate, organize exchanges of students and professionals, and leverage each other’s accumulated experience to develop effective practices.

How does Poland assess the opportunities for exchanging technologies with Uzbek partners in the fields of agrologistics, certification, and food safety?

- Poland focuses on the production and export of high-quality, environmentally sustainable food products, which entails stringent standards and certification requirements. We have discussed ways to ensure that these standards are met by both sides as trade expands.

Another key area is logistical cooperation. Poland is ready to consider measures to support Uzbek transport operators. In the coming days, I will hold discussions with the Polish Minister of Infrastructure to identify concrete steps for developing collaboration and enhancing mutual efficiency.

What measures, in your view, could accelerate the entry of Uzbek fruit and vegetable products into the Polish market and, more broadly, the European Union?

An important measure involves the establishment of trade houses, which will serve as central hubs for accessing products from both countries. This requires a thorough analysis of the Polish market, an assessment of demand in Uzbekistan, and the creation of balanced supply chains. The goal is for each side to provide high-demand goods without generating artificial competition.

It is also essential to finalize agreements on veterinary and sanitary standards, as well as food safety regulations, to ensure that trade can flow freely and without unnecessary barriers.

– Thank you very much, and once again, welcome to Uzbekistan.

– Thank you very much. I wish you all the very best.
