WENZHOU, April 20. /Dunyo IA/. Diplomats of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Shanghai visited the city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province on a working trip, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the visit, they held talks with the Mayor of Wenzhou, Zhang Wenjie, who noted Uzbekistan’s achievements and the positive dynamics of bilateral relations across all areas of cooperation between the two countries.

It was highlighted that Wenzhou is one of China’s leading economic centers with a population of around 10 million people. In 2025, the city’s regional GDP reached 1 trillion yuan, ranking it 26th among Chinese cities. Within Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou holds third place after Hangzhou and Ningbo. More than 90 percent of the city’s industrial output comes from the private sector.

The parties emphasized that the friendly relations between the leaders of Uzbekistan and China create favourable conditions for further expanding cooperation. It was noted that in 2025, bilateral trade between the two countries reached 17.8 billion US dollars.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to expand the participation of Wenzhou-based companies in investment projects in Uzbekistan.

As part of the visit, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the 15th International Garden Expo held at Wenzhou Garden Expo Park, with participation from officials of Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou city authorities, diplomatic missions, and international organizations.

The Uzbekistan pavilion attracted particular attention, featuring a garden representing the Syrdarya region, designed in a traditional architectural style with elements of Central Asian landscape art.

The delegation also took part in the “Economic and Trade Development” conference organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade in Wenzhou.

During the event, information was presented on ongoing economic reforms in Uzbekistan, measures to improve the investment climate, and opportunities for foreign investors, including tax and customs incentives and access to regional markets.

On the sidelines of the visit, meetings were held with senior representatives of major Wenzhou-based companies, including Kangnai Group (leather footwear production), Fapai Group (men’s formal clothing production), and Chaoda Valves Group (industrial valve manufacturing).

Additional talks were held with relevant government agencies and the Chairman of the Wenzhou Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Zhang Jianwei.

As a result of the visit, agreements were reached on the participation of Chinese companies in projects in Uzbekistan, the formation of a business delegation from Wenzhou, participation in business forums held in Uzbekistan, and the organization of presentations on the investment potential of Uzbek regions in Wenzhou.

The Chinese side was also invited to participate in the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum, scheduled for June 16–19 in Tashkent.
