"Zakovat-Gambit” in the UK: Uzbek students compete in prestigious knowledge tournament

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom organized the chess tournament “Zakovat-Gambit” at University College of London, among members of the Uzbek Students Union (UzSU) in the UK, scholarship holders of the “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation and other Uzbek students residing in the country, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
More than 50 Uzbek students from London, Birmingham, and other UK cities took part in the “Zakovat-Gambit” chess tournament organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom at University College of London. The competition was held in an atmosphere of excitement and intense rivalry. Winners of the first, second, and third places received cash prizes and certificates of honor from the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan.
In parallel with the tournament, a cultural corner showcasing Uzbek heritage was organized in cooperation with the Committee of Uzbekistan on Interethnic Relations and Affairs of Compatriots Abroad and the “Vatandoshlar” Public Fund. Live musical performances accompanied the exhibit, and all participants received books on the lives and works of prominent Jadid figures, including Abdulla Qodiriy, Munavvar Abdurashidkhanov, and Mahmoudkhodzhi Behbudi.
Students and university representatives were also invited to enjoy a traditional Uzbek meal, served by the London-based restaurant chain “Oshpaz”.
Participants noted that the event provided a platform to develop their creative, intellectual, and professional potential, while fostering the exchange of ideas. They also expressed pride and inspiration from the recent early victory of Uzbek grandmaster, Nodirbek Abdusattorov at the “London Chess Classic 2025”.
