Uzbekistan and Pakistan discuss new joint projects in the pharmaceutical sector

ISLAMABAD, April 2. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan and Pakistan are exploring new joint projects in the pharmaceutical sector. Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtaev met with Pakistan’s Ambassador-at-Large for Health and Director of The Searle Company Limited, Syed Nadeem Ahmed, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, studying advanced international practices, and implementing mutually beneficial joint projects.

Alisher Tukhtaev provided detailed information on the ongoing pharmaceutical reforms in Uzbekistan, the creation of a favourable investment climate, opportunities for foreign investors, and current investment projects. He highlighted recent achievements in increasing local production and developing import-substituting medicines.

The meeting also addressed the introduction of digital systems aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the sector, establishing partnerships with leading international companies, and large-scale modernization programs being implemented within the framework of the President’s initiatives.

Syed Nadeem Ahmed highly praised the reforms underway in Uzbekistan, noting that they open new opportunities for foreign companies. He spoke about the current activities of The Searle Company Limited and the company’s strategic plans in the region, including cooperation with a number of local partners.

“I have visited Uzbekistan twice and held productive meetings with representatives of the business community. Procedures for the registration of several pharmaceutical products have already been initiated. We view Uzbekistan as an important platform for entering the markets of Central Asia and the CIS and intend to expand our operations here,” he stated.

The Pakistani side also shared plans to develop new biopharmaceutical products for the treatment of cardiovascular, oncological, and metabolic diseases.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold online consultations with the participation of relevant ministries and agencies to further explore opportunities for implementing joint investment projects in Uzbekistan.
