BISHKEK, May 14. /Dunyo IA/. Cooperation among Turkic states in the field of transport and transit continues to expand and is acquiring strategic importance in Eurasia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with reference to a publication by the Kyrgyz information and analytical agency “Alliance-press”.
It is noted that amid rapid changes in the global economy, transport and logistics are ceasing to be merely an infrastructure sector and are turning into an important tool for economic and geopolitical influence. In this context, Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is strengthening its position as one of the promising regional platforms for cooperation in Eurasia.
Today, the OTS member states cooperate in more than 40 areas, with the transport and transit sector becoming one of the key priorities.
Thanks to their geographical location, the Turkic countries are situated at the intersection of major transport corridors connecting Europe, Central Asia, China, the Middle East and South Asia. This facilitates the formation of a new Eurasian logistics system.
Within the framework of the OTS, the regulatory and legal framework in the transport sector has been strengthened in recent years. In particular, agreements in the field of international cargo transportation were signed at the Samarkand summit in 2022. Starting from 2026, it is planned to implement the e-CMR system and transition to electronic document management in the transport industry.
The institutional infrastructure of cooperation has received a separate development. In 2024, the Alliance of Logistics Centers and Cargo Carriers was established in Tashkent under the auspices of the OTS, reflecting the active participation of business in integration processes.
Particular attention is paid to the “Middle Corridor” project, which connects China with Europe through Central Asia and the Caucasus. “By 2025, the volume of cargo transportation along this route exceeded 5 million tons, confirming its growing significance in international logistics”, - the agency reports.
