TASHKENT, August 20. /Dunyo IA/.  Today, the capital of Uzbekistan hosts the international conference titled “Human Rights in the Era of Digital Transformation: Modern Approaches”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event is being held in a hybrid format, bringing together representatives of government bodies, national human rights institutions, international organizations, ombudspersons and experts from foreign countries.

The conference focuses on pressing issues related to the protection and promotion of human rights amid the rapid development of digital technologies. Particular attention is being paid to new opportunities and challenges arising from digitalization, personal data protection, online security and ensuring equal access to digital services.

The agenda also covers the protection of women’s rights and the promotion of gender equality in the digital environment, the protection of young people’s rights, preventing cyberbullying and promoting online safety, as well as safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and developing inclusive digital services.

The opening ceremony is attended by representatives of the leadership of the chambers of the Parliament of Uzbekistan, the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, national human rights institutions and other international organizations.

Welcome remarks were delivered by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Mavludakhon Khodjayeva, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Sabine Machl, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan Antti Karttunen, Director of the National Human Rights Centre of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov and other participants.

Three thematic sessions are scheduled to take place as part of the conference. During the sessions, Uzbek and international experts will discuss modern mechanisms for protecting human rights in the digital environment, international experience and prospects for further cooperation.

The event is also expected to feature a signing ceremony for memoranda on bilateral cooperation.

The conference is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Tashkent Declaration, outlining key areas of international cooperation in protecting human rights amid digital transformation.
